What are hyaluronic acid, also known as HA, facial fillers?
HA is a naturally occurring sugar found in the body that maintains the moisture in our skin by binding with water molecules. It’s found in many human tissues including connective tissues and fluid around the joints, but approximately 50% is found in our skin.
HA facial fillers contain a manufactured form of hyaluronic acid. They are injected directly into the skin and can reduce the signs of aging. Is treatment with JUVÉDERM® painful?
As with any injection, there may be pain at the injection site. JUVÉDERM® is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Because JUVÉDERM® is also available with pain-reducing lidocaine, the injection process is a more comfortable experience with patients reposting no to mild pain.
What are the possible side effects and recovery time?
JUVÉDERM® is generally well tolerated. Side effects are generally mild to moderate and may include temporary skin reactions such as redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising at the site of injection. These reactions may occur immediately or may be delayed, and can last for up to a week. Injection in the lip may cause more swelling and bruising due to the unique physiology of this area.
